Meeting with School Principals -
Water Conservation & Environment Education Programme
Ferrycarrig Hotel, 5th March, 2008

Arising from the implementation of the Government’s Water Pricing Policy and the introduction of transitional arrangements for charging schools for water services, Wexford County Council invited school principals to an information meeting in the Ferrycarrig Hotel on Wednesday last, 5th March, 2008. The purpose of the meeting was, primarily, to give advice on initiatives that could be taken during the transitional period to substantially reduce water consumption in schools and, therefore, water charges.

The meeting was addressed by Mr. Niall McGuigan, Director of Services, Water, Environment & Emergency Services. Mr. Gerry Forde, Senior Executive Engineer gave an overview of water supply and distribution throughout the County, while Ms. Martina Donoghue, Administrative Officer dealt with Water Charges and Water Quality, particularly in schools on private water supplies. Mr. Tony Quirke, Water Conservation Office then gave examples of how water consumption could be greatly reduced, giving Gorey Community School as an example of where substantial savings had been  made.

Ms. Cliona Connolly, Environment Education Officer also gave an informative presentation on the Council’s Education and Green Schools Programmes.

The school principals present showed great interest in the topics discussed and actively participated in the Questyions & Answers session that followed.

Deatils of all presentations are available from the Downloads & Advice Notes section.
