Water Services Operations Section
Introduction
The Water Services section of Wexford County Council is responsible for the provision and maintenance of the following services within its administrative area:-
- Water Supply
- Sewerage Services
- Public Conveniences
- Burial Grounds
- Land Drainage
It also works in partnership with the Group Scheme sector, to provide quality drinking water for these consumers.
These functions are categorised as sanitary functions and the Council is the Sanitary Authority for same.
Legislation
The principle legislation governing the operations of the Section is contained in the following statutes:-
- Public Health (Ireland) Act, 1878
- Some pre - 1878 Statutes
- Local Government (Sanitary Services) Acts, 1948, 1962, 1978, 1983, 1994 and 2001
- E. U. Drinking Water Regulations, 1988 and 2000
- Arterial Drainage Acts for Land Drainage
- Water Services Act 2007
Staffing and Operations Network
To run the service, the Council employs water and sewerage works caretaking staff, water and waste water inspectors, and technical and administrative staff, based in offices in the principle towns throughout the County.
Connection to Water Supply and Sewerage Service
An application can be made to connect to the above services where these services exist in an area and on payment of the appropriate connection fees and compliance with the terms and conditions of the application.
Public Conveniences
As Sanitary Authority the Council operates standard public conveniences and automatic public conveniences throughout the County.
Complete Information System
This project, which involved digital mapping of all water and sewerage networks in County Wexford, together with establishing a consumer database, commenced in November, 2002 and was completed in January 2005. The system is updated regularly by the Water Conservation office.
