Summary: Sally Wadding-Murphy was born in Maudlintown in Wexford and lived there up to the 1970s. She recalls the childhood games she and her friends played in ‘The Rocks’ and the families who lived in the area. Tragedy struck the family in 1922 when her brother Nicky was killed by a motor car just outside their home. Her mother’s death and father’s drinking bouts meant Sally had to take over the running of the household. She married Nicholas Murphy, a seaman, who had been in the navy since a boy and later joined Irish Shipping. He died at sea in 1950 and Sally was left to bring up their daughter on her own.
