Part 2
Date of Birth: 19th August 1940
Place of Birth: Maternity Hospital, Gorey, Co. Wexford
Date Interviewed: 24th June 2009
Summary: Connie Rooney remembers a happy family life growing up in Ballyduff, however, he did not enjoy school and regarded the teachers as ‘tyrants’ – when Connie left school he was still unable to read! From the age of nine he was ploughing and ‘following horses’, doing a multitude of farm jobs. At 18 he was going to dances in Courtown but found the Dublin girls hard to please. His love of Ballyduff comes through in his descriptions of the places and characters of the area. Connie’s interview was recorded in the restored House of Stories cottage, a wonderful example of his enthusiastic dedication to Ballyduff.
