Summary: Part 1. – In Part One father and son Bill and Pat Power talk of their many years working as lighthouse keepers. Bill left Duncannon when he was sixteen and entered the Fishery Protection Service, which later became the Naval Service. He describes his experiences protecting Irish fishing interests. Bill then joined the Lighthouse Service. He met and married Angela in the North where he now lives. Son Pat recalls his first memories of his father’s work. He himself became one of the youngest keepers ever at seventeen when he started in 1978. He worked on lighthouses until he was made redundant in 1993. Part 2. - In Part Two Bill and Pat talk more of their experiences as lighthouse keepers. Bill recalls his final post with the service when he returned to his native county as principal keeper at Hook Lighthouse. Pat talks of life after he had been made redundant from the service and they both discuss the changes that automation has brought. Their passion and knowledge led them to being asked to give a talk on Irish lighthouses and the men who served in them. Part of their reason for their visit to Duncannon is an invite to give lectures locally and in Waterford.
