Summary: John Power was born at Forlorn Point at Kilmore and has the sea in his blood. He shares with us his vast knowledge of the history and development of the Kilmore area, including the Saltee Islands. After several years working as a mechanic John returned to Kilmore to take up fishing. He fished for lobsters for thirty-five years. He was Secretary of the Fishermen’s Co-Op for twenty-six years and was appointed by Neil Blaney to Bord Iascaigh Mhara. It was in this position that he became involved in negotiations as Ireland prepared to join the European Common Market. He is also involved with the Wexford Organisation for Rural Development. For the past thirteen years John has been working on his comprehensive ‘The Maritime History of County Wexford’.
