Summary: Sister and brother Anna and Denis grew up in Duncannon where the family owned a pub they bought for £400. School was not a pleasant experience. They were taught by nuns who called Anna “stupid” and Denis “lazy”. They talk of their childhood memories of Duncannon and of the soldiers stationed in the Fort. Anna worked for years in the pub. She recalls one incident when a mother brought her children from the beach in to the pub to shelter from the rain. Both mother and publican were prosecuted for allowing children on the premises! When the case went to court it became a bit of a farce and the sympathetic judge imposed a minimal fine. Denis moved in to Wexford town and worked in Godkins Bakery. He later moved into construction and turned his carpentry skills to boat-building.
