Summary: Marie O’Leary was born on a farm near Castlebridge and has loved farming all her life. She describes the farming methods used when she was young and talks about the killing of the pig, and the making of black and white puddings from the blood and intestines of the animal. Their farm labourer was with them for fifty years. The Rosary was recited in the home every evening and on Sunday afternoon after the family dinner. Marie talks of the families and businesses in Castlebridge in her younger days and recalls the big fair that took place in the village every May. Marie is involved with the Castlebridge Senior Citizens group and has written articles for the Bridge magazine – a local publication. She was awarded a Papal medal for her thirty-five years looking after the church in Screen.
