Summary: Tom O’Connor grew up in Enniscorthy where the family had a confectionery shop. He started working for Wexford County Council in 1947 and lived in digs in Wexford town. In 1951 he became the youngest officer in the Civil Defence. His work took him from Wexford Hospital to Brownswood – this was a time when the TB scare was at its height. He became Acting Town Clerk in Enniscorthy and served as Gorey Town Clerk for many years. During his time in office he met famous people like Dwight D. Eisenhower and President John F. Kennedy. He retired from public service in 1986.
