Summary: Margaret O’Broin was born in Yorkshire, she was the first daughter on her father’s side in three generations. The family returned to Dublin and Margaret trained for three years as a cutter in Cassidy’s of Georges Street. She also worked in publishing in O’Reillys of Poolbeg Street but had to leave when she got married. She recalls her first memories of holidays in Ballymoney. They bought a site there and put a caravan on it but had no electricity or water – but those were “happy days”. Margaret trained for her hospital badge and talks of the horrors she and her brother faced dealing with victims of the German bombs dropped on Dublin’s North Strand.
