Summary: Jim Murphy was born in a thatched cottage near where he lives today. He moved to his present farmhouse in 1956. Like his father before him Jim has been a sheep farmer all his life. He recalls going barefoot during the summer months and wearing wooden clogs during the war years as leather was scarce. Jim talks passionately about hurling and the great players he saw and hurled with. He played with and was a selector with Rathgarogue / Cushinstown. Jim tells the story of how his brother was cured of cancer by Bill Deacon – a man renowned for his homemade cures. His best sheepdog had an alcohol problem and would get drunk on beer slops at fair days in New Ross!
