Part 2

Place of Birth: Bayview House, Duncannon, Co. Wexford
Date Interviewed: 28th October 2009
Summary: Kitty Kehoe had a “happy childhood” growing up in Duncannon where her parents had a pub and guesthouse. They also owned a small farm. Duncannon Fort was the local playground for Kitty and her friends until the army arrived in 1941. She recalls the ‘hops’ in the local hall, playing card games, swimming off the beach and the annual outing to Dollar Bay with the nuns. The village was cut off during the big snowfall of 1947 and getting feed to livestock was a problem. Her education in Loreto in Wexford was paid for by an aunt and uncle – it cost £42 a year as a boarder. Kitty went to work in Chicago in 1954 but after two years moved to England where she trained as a nurse.
