Summary: Jordans first started trading in Ballindaggin in May 1906 when they took over the business from the Roche family. Jim was born in the house where the store and bar operate while Kathleen grew up on a nearby farm. Jim went into the family business when he was 17 and talks of the workings of a rural pub and grocery. At one time the bar and store were all one unit and Jim talks of the local men who would come in on a Good Friday for a few pints and get caught by the Gardai! Kathleen recalls life on the family farm where her father had 6 to 7 men working for him. Although the village has changed over the years Jordan’s Grocery and Bar continues to play an important role in the life of Ballindaggin.
