Part 2
Date of Birth: 15th February 1931
Place of Birth: 72 North Main Street, Wexford
Date Interviewed: 29th September 2009
Summary: Ina Jordan was born on Wexford’s North Main Street and lived over her parents’ bar and grocery. She and her brother were not allowed into the pub itself and she remembers that her father would not allow singing or shouting on the premises. She lists the shops and businesses in the neighbourhood and recalls the shopkeepers removing the shutters from their windows in the early morning. Ina remembers the Menapia docking at Wexford’s quays and seeing men carrying sacks of coal off the coal boats. Her favourite shop in town was owned by her aunt Alice at 22 South Main street – she made delicious ice-cream sundaes. Ina married Paddy Jordan and in September 1962 they emigrated to Canada with their young children. They eventually settled in Vancouver which has been their home ever since. Ina laments the way Irish people seem to have turned away from the Catholic Church.
