Summary: For the first 9 years of his life David lived in Enniscorthy Castle and saw nothing unusual about living in such an historic dwelling. He describes life in the castle and clearly remembers barefoot boys selling newspapers on the streets of Enniscorthy and bombers flying over the town during WW2. David owes his existence to a childhood illness suffered by his uncle which caused his grandmother to miss sailing on the Titanic with her children! David’s family moved back to England and he joined the Royal Marines, serving with them in Cyprus, Libya and the Holy Land. He returned to Enniscorthy where he took up farming and was then invited to join the family business of P.J. Roche & Sons, malting and brewing. David talks in detail about the business, its importance to the local economy, and of the colourful characters involved.
