Part 2
Date of Birth: 23rd March 1938
Place of Birth: Rocklands, Camross, Foulksmills, Co. Wexford
Date Interviewed: 10th December 2009
Summary: Paddy English still lives in the Camross farmhouse he was born in. As the oldest boy in the family he was expected to work the farm from an early age. He has great memories of the area and talks of raising funds for the parish, the modernisation of Camross Dance Hall in 1961, the annual field day, the carnivals, skittle games and local heroes such as hurler Jim Morrissey. A severe snowstorm in 1963 brought power lines down but these remained ‘live’ as the fuses were frozen solid! Paddy says he was “fortunate” to meet his wife Sadie at a local dance 1976. He describes a local custom that young married couples had to face when they returned from their honeymoon.
