Summary: Dr. Bart Curtis spent his first five years in Adamstown until the family moved to Carrigbyrne where the hill became his playground. He talks of his childhood and his love of sport – he played minor football for Wexford and represented his county in Croke Park in 1945. He was sent as a boarder to St. Peter’s College at an initial fee of £50 per annum. He studied medicine in Dublin and qualified in 1953. He worked for a couple of years in the Mater and Holles Street hospitals before setting up practice in Wexford. In his time he has helped deliver over 3,500 children. He vaccinated 800 people in the clinic one afternoon during a smallpox scare in Wexford. He still has the original bicycle that served him well during his early years as a GP.
