Part 1
Part 2
Date of Birth: 24th February 1938
Place of Birth: Wexford
Date Interviewed: 12th December 2009
Summary: Pat Codd’s father was still in his teens when he fought in WW1 and was badly injured in a landmine explosion. As a young man Pat loved sport and played handball, hurling and football, and enjoyed cross-country running. Coming from a farming background Pat left school early to work on the farm - “as a child you had to work”- and has farmed all his life. He married Alice in 1963 and they had 11 children. Alice worked hard as there were often 16 or 17 sitting down to dinner! Pat joined the local Fine Gael branch and eventually became County Chairman. He just lost out in the 1991 local elections but was then co-opted on to the Council and has been elected in subsequent elections. He was chairman of Wexford county Council in 1996/1997. Pat feels we still have a long way to go to bring about a fair and just society in Ireland. He believes the cover up of abuse by church and state institutions is a sad reflection on us all.
