Place of Birth: Slaney Lodge, Crossabeg, Co. Wexford

Summary: Brid Bauress remembers her early years growing up near Crossabeg as “absolutely wonderful”. She was very upset when her teacher, Miss Crosbie, died from pneumonia. She went to live in Dublin with an aunt and applied for a job as a psychiatric nurse. Brid talks of the patients she worked with and says that many young women were placed in institutions because “they were going out with the wrong fellow” or became pregnant outside marriage. Brid also helped with Electro-Convulsive Therapy and believes that many patients benefited from this treatment. Brid is very proud of her thirty-eight year old, well-maintained, VW Beetle car. This is the car she uses for her journeys between her home in Dublin and her cottage in County Wexford.
