Frequently Asked Questions

1.  How does the payment model work ?

Full year stickers are issued to those who clear their account in full.  Quarterly stickers are issued to those who choose an easier payment method by paying quarterly.  Once you have cleared your fees for the last quarter, we will send you the next quarter's sticker automatically.  You do not need to request this.  If you forget to pay in time to receive your next valid sticker, we will place a reminder sticker on your bin 2/3 weeks into the following month.  After that, only valid stickers for the current quarter will be accepted.

2.  What if I have arrears ?

If you have arrears on your account from 2010 or prior, it is important that you contact credit control to make an agreement to clear your arrears.  As long as you comply with that agreement and pay your relevant quarter's charges, we will continue to issue your stickers and collect your waste.

3.  Will I still get an invoice ?

We will write to you towards the end of each quarter informing you of your outstanding balance and how much you need to pay to get the next quarter sticker.

4.  Are the council going to introduce a Brown bin ?

The introduction of the brown bin for food and garden waste in the main towns is planned for 2011.

6.  Can you contact me via text messaging about my balance ?

We introduced a text messaging service in 2010.  This enables us to communicate more efficiently with customers to remind them of the expiration of their stickers, bad weather disruptions to the service etc...   If we already have your mobile number you are probably receiving these already.  If not, you can opt in by texting the word BIN followed by a space and your refuse a/c no. to 51444.  The service sends free text reminders to those on quarterly payments as well as service reminders/updates.  It is not however an on demand service so specific requests sent by texts cannot be answered.
