Anti-Litter League 2011

IBAL Anti-Litter League 2011

in conjunction with the Department of the Environment

Wexford:  6th out of 53 towns / cities surveyed.  Litter Classification – Clean to European Norms.

Congratulations

Another excellent result.  In the combined surveys there were seventeen Grade As, three Grade Bs and no bad sites.  Had to be near the top.  An excellent result for Wexford with nine out of the ten sites surveyed getting the top litter grade.  All approach roads were top ranking.  Redmond Park was in great condition with all facilities within well maintained and Loreto School was immaculate.  Wexford County Council Offices / Department of the Environment was in pristine condition.

Results

Dublin Approach Road:  Grade A.  Road surface / signage / markings were in very good order.  The overall impression created along this route is very positive.

Rosslare Approach Road:  Grade A.  A particularly fresh and well presented approach route into Wexford – grass was neatly cut and the whole area was very fresh in appearance.

Gorey Approach Road:  Grade A.  This route is not as fresh looking as the other approach routes but it wasn’t littered either.

R730  Approach Road:  Grade A.  This road passes along some residences, a garage and some businesses – it was a top ranking site.

Main Street South:  Grade A.  There were several closed down / disused premises along this street and many of those that were open displayed a ‘Shop in Wexford, Support 1000 jobs’.  Thankfully the disused premises didn’t impact in any negative way on the litter situation.  There was a virtual absence of litter throughout.

Loreto School:  Grade A.  The school was surveyed from outside the grounds.  All aspects of the school grounds visible from the road were in immaculate condition.

Redmond Park:  Grade A.  A wonderful amenity which has been very well presented and clearly well respected.  Excellent entrance with visitor notices / information and plenty of other information throughout e.g. tree names, wildflower patch etc.  All aspects of park in good order  e.g. playground, fitness equipment, picnic tables, benches etc.

SuperValu Car Park:  Grade B.  This site was somewhat littered, all food related litter.  The area lacked the high levels of maintenance throughout the other sites surveyed in Wexford.  A disappointing result from a food supplier.

Wexford County Council / Department of Environment Offices Complex:  Grade A.  A superb site.  The whole area was in pristine condition.

Wexford Promenade:  Grade A.  Very high standards of previous IBAL Anti-Litter surveys have been maintained.  An excellent facility which has been well respected - almost all aspects in very good condition - seating, life-belts, visitor information, signage, bins and ornamental trees and flower pots.  The Poop and Scoop facility was rusty - there were several incidents of dog fouling.
