Three Main Functions of the LSPs are:
- Information- establish a consultative forum, initiate research, compile a sports directory and database and identify needs and resources to form the basis of local planning.
- Education- provide quality opportunities for education and training at local level, provide training courses targeting volunteers and provide access to sport specific courses through the national governing bodies (NGBs) of sport.
- Implementation- develop a strategic plan for local sport, appoint a professional administrator, secure related support services, select participation programmes for LSPs modified to suit local needs, increase the impact of national programmes delivered locally, market and promote sport.
Sport Active Wexford Aims To:
- Provide physical activity and sporting opportunities for all ages and groups i.e.( toddlers, children, teenagers, men, women, people with disabilities, minority groups, older people, sports clubs.)
- Provide better quality PE and sport in schools, increasing teachers and the students levels of participation.
- Provide more opportunities for sport and physical activity after school hours.
- Create opportunities for young people to participate in sports leadership training.
- Prevent people from dropping out of sporting activites or physical activity.
- Create new and improved local community groups and clubs.
- To develop an integrated sports structure in partnership with National Governing Bodies which reflects the needs of performers supporting the National Coaching strategy and the Long term Athlete Development Programme.
- To support the provision of better facilities to enable better opportunities.
- To encourage more volunteers and leaders working in sport and physical activity.
- Provide a comprehensive information service reflecting sport and physical activity across the whole of County Wexford.
