What is a Local Sports Partnership?
The Irish Sports Council (ISC) establised the Local Sports Partnerships (LSPs) as an excellent mechanism to delivering sport and physical activity throughout the country. Each county has its own LSP and together, the ISC and the LSP work to create opportunities for sport and physical activity to suit people of all ages and backgrounds.
Sports Active Wexford was set up in January 2008 and a Sports Co-ordinator (Fran Ronan) was appointed to develop and co-ordinate sport and physical activity at a local level in partnership with a range of agencies, clubs and community groups throughout Wexford County. Tasks that the Sports Co-ordinator is involved in include:
- Planning and implementing programmes for local sports development.
- Increasing sport facility usage.
- Increasing participation in sport and physical activity.
- Establishing local networks to assist in the development of sport and physical activity i.e volunteers, local clubs, schools.
