Refurbishment of Enniscorthy Playground
Wexford County Council intends to carry out a significant refurbishment of Enniscorthy’s Promenade Playground.
The contract for these works has been awarded to Crawford Group, a Wexford-based company specialising in the design and construction of children’s play areas, skate parks and multi-use games facilities. Funding has been provided by Wexford County Council with assistance from the Department of Children & Youth Affairs.
Refurbishment works will include the replacement of the central play unit with the Play-Odyssey Senior Tower with “Gun Powder Store” at top level, 2 tunnel double poly slides and many other fun features which will offer children plenty of play value.
Specialist sensory and special needs equipment will also be incorporated into the playground. This will include eco-tube chimes, an inclusive & fully accessible multi-user wheelchair roundabout and a wheelchair-accessible swing, in addition to a number of other play pieces.
As part of the selection and design process, Wexford County Council consulted with the members of Wexford’s Comhairle na nÓg, inviting their views and opinions on the types of play equipment to be included in the newly refurbished destination playground. The Council has taken the advice and feedback from the Comhairle on board with the resulting design expected to transform and reinvigorate Enniscorthy Promenade Playground, providing an enjoyable, inclusive and safe environment for children to explore and play.
Works are due to commence in May 2017 and due to health and safety considerations it will be necessary to close the playground to public use during the estimated 8-10 week construction period. The timing of the work has been arranged to have the playground available during the Easter holiday period, and to ensure the refurbished playground will be open for business in time for the coming summer season.
