Music Development Programme (MDP)

Wexford County Council initiated a Music Development Programme in January 2003 aimed at:

• Creating a sustainable structure for the future provision of music in both education and community contexts
• Providing professional development opportunities for local practitioners who wish to work in these contexts

The formation of the MDP has its roots in two extensive education projects - Arts in the Classroom Initiative 1997 - 1998 and County Wexford Children's Choir Project 1997 - 2002. The findings and recommendations of these 2 projects formed the basis for the MDP.

Since the initiation of the MDP, four specific project strands have been developed. These are:  

• Professional Development Programme
• Opportunities for composers
• Music Education development
• Community Music development
