Arts in Education
Wexford County Council has collaborated with primary schools from the four corners of County Wexford since 1999. The name of this collaborative programme was called ‘Art Alongside.
Art Alongside is a visual art project carried out in an education setting which brings together artists and children in local Co. Wexford primary schools to work ‘alongside’ each other based on a chosen theme. Its primary purpose is to allow a framework where artists can work authentically as artists while contributing to the local community. Art Alongside is co-funded by Wexford County Council, the Arts Council and participating primary schools in association with Wexford Arts Centre and the Irish Museum of Modern Art.

Summer Term 2012
The Art Alongside Summer Term begins this week, April 23rd. The participating pupils from Marshalstown, Ballymurn, Danescastle and Ballymitty
have an exciting range of creative projects in store for them. Having already visited the ‘IMMA-ginary Spaces’ exhibition at Wexford Arts Centre
earlier this month, the young artists will now get to further explore their creative talents in class over the coming weeks. The Art Alongside programme
is facilitated by experienced professional artists Mary Claire O’Brien and Helen Robbins.
The Arts in Education programme is currently being reviewed internally. It is envisaged that new and exciting programme will be rolled out in 2013.
New Secondary School Initiative: Room to Record
‘Room to Record’ provides an introduction to the principles of sound recording and live sound for ‘fledgling’ emerging artists, aged 16 – 18 years. In time, it is envisaged that participants of this course could feed into a future programme of ‘recording studio experience’.
This project is currently being piloted. If successful, this project may be outreached to secondary schools throughout the County.
